In the early morning, just before the sun rose, Marines and sailors from Headquarters and Service Company, Ground Combat Element Integrated Task Force, practiced the basics of combat conditioning as they conducted a four-mile hike aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Oct. 23, 2014.

Marines and sailors wore body armor and carried an assault pack containing items that would be necessary for a short patrol of 48 hours.

From October 2014 to July 2015, the Ground Combat Element Integrated Task Force will conduct individual and collective skills training in designated combat arms occupational specialties in order to facilitate the standards based assessment of the physical performance of Marines in a simulated operating environment performing specific ground combat arms tasks.
