Major Justin D. Lokkesmoe was commissioned in June of 2004 following his graduation from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. From 2004 to 2005 he attended the Basic Officer Course and Infantry Officer Course.
From 2005 to 2008 he served as a platoon commander and executive officer with 2D Battalion, 5th Marines, in Camp Pendleton, CA. During this time, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the 31st MEU’s BLT, as well as to ar-Ramadi, Iraq in support of OIF II.
From 2008 to 2010, he served as the Commanding Officer of Company B, Infantry Training Battalion West. From 2010 to 2011, he served as the Operations Officer of Infantry Unit Leader Training Company.
In 2012, he served as the Operations Officer of the 2/1/215 ANA advisor team in Garmsir, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
From 2013 to 2014 he served as Commanding Officer, Company E, 2D Battalion, 3D Marines, in Kaneohe Bay, HI. During this time, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan, and the Republic of Korea as part of the Unit Deployment Program.
He reported to the Ground Combat Element Integrated Task Force in August 2014 for duty as the Headquarters and Service Company Commander.
Major Lokkesmoe is a graduate of the Maneuver Captain Career Course, the Expeditionary Warfare School (non-resident), and Command and Staff College (non-resident).
His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold stars in lieu of third award) and the Navy Achievement Medal.
