First Sergeant Giovanni A. Lobo was born in San Salvador, El Salvador. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1997. Following completion of Recruit Training, Parris Island, SC and Marine Combat Training Battalion (MCT) at the School of Infantry East, First Sergeant Lobo reported to Ft Leanardwood, MO and received the MOS of 3531, Motor Vehhicle Operator.
In July 1997 First Sergeant Lobo was assigned to 2d Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune NC, where he deployed to Turkey and Nova Scotia onboard the USS NASSAU, participating in Exercises Marcot 98 and Dynamic Mix 99.
In December 1999 First Sergeant Lobo reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171, 1st Marine Air Wing, Iwakuni, Japan and served as a the Medium Section Leader in the Motor Transport Patoon and deployed to South Korea participating in Exercise Foal Eagle 2000.
In December 2000, First Sergeant Lobo reported to Marine Barracks 8th & I, Washington D.C. where he served as the Motor Transport Platoon Sergeant.
In May 2004, First Sergeant Lobo returned to the 2d Marine Division and was assigned to 3d Battalion, 8th Marines, where he served as the Motor Transport Platoon Sergeant and Motor Transport Operations Chief. During this tour, First Sergeant Lobo deployed to the Al Anbar Province Fallujah, Iraq in January 2005 and later redeployed with the Battalion in March 2006 to Al Anbar Province Ramadi, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In January of 2007,First Sergeant Lobo attended Marine Combat Instructor’s Course, The School of Infantry-East and assigned as Instructor, and subsequently a Platoon Commander and Chief Combat Instructor for Company F,and Battalion Training Chief, Marine Combat Training Battalion. During this time he completed the Martial Arts Instructor Course. In January 2009 First Sergeant Lobo was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, and assined as Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant with Company H.
In March 2010 First Sergeant Lobo reported back to 2d Marine Division where he would serve as the Motor Transport Chief, Romeo Battery, 5th Battalion, 10th Marines until the battalion’s deactivation. During his tour with Romeo Battery, First Sergeant Lobo deployed to Okinawa, Japan and the Republic of Korea in support of the Unit Deployment Program.
In September 2012 First Sergeant Lobo reported to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) where he served as the 24th MEU Motor Transport Chief during the MEU’s 2012 deployment onboard the USS NEW YORK’s maiden deployment.
In January 2013, First Sergeant Lobo reported to Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Company E, 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. In November 2013 First Sergeant Lobo deployed to Okinawa, Japan and South Korea onboard the USS NASHVILLE in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
In August 2014 First Sergeant Lobo reported once again to Camp Lejeune, NC where he assumed to duties of the Battery First Sergeant, Battery A, Ground Combat Element Integrated Task Force, 2d Marine Division.
First Sergeant Lobo’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, (with 1 gold star in lieu of 2nd award and Combat “V” distinguishing device), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, (with 3 gold stars in lieu of 4th award), and Combat Action Ribbon.
He is married to the former Dora Cappiello of North Babylon, New York. They have three children: Alexander, Casey and Matthew.
