First Sergeant Hester was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Upon graduating from high school he joined the Marine Corps and shipped to recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina, in August 1994. After the completion of recruit training he was a student at Light Armored Vehicle School, Infantry Training Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California. He then received order to 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion in the MOS 0313 (Light Armored Vehicle Crewman).
In March 1995 PFC Hester checked into LAR and was assigned as scout, Delta Company, 3rd Platoon. As a scout he deployed with 2D Bn 2D Marines, Battalion Landing Team 2/2, 22D Marine Expeditionary Unit. Aboard the USS Tortuga he participated in Operation Joint Endeavor, Operation Assured Response, and Operation Quick Response.
In May 1999 Sgt Hester was assigned to Bravo Co, 2nd Plt as a Vehicle Commander of a LAV-25. He deployed with 1st Bn, 8th Marines, Battalion Landing Team 1/8, 22D Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Portland.
In January 2003, Sgt Hester reported to Recruiters School, MCRD San Diego, California. Upon completion of Recruiters School he was assigned to the 4th Marine Corps District, Recruiting Station Louisville, Kentucky; Recruiting Sub-Station Fairfield Ohio in the MOS 8411. Here Sgt Hester was promoted to the rank of SSgt and was recruiter of the year for FY 2004. In 2005 he was reassigned as SNCOIC of Recruiting Sub-Station Paducah, KentuckyY. In 2006 he was reassigned as SNCOIC of Recruiting Sub-Station Florence, Kentucky where he was SNCOIC of the Year for FY 2006.
In January 2007, GySgt Hester reported for duty to 2D LAR Bn. He was assigned as Platoon Commander, Delta Co, Weapons Plt. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from March to Oct 2008. In November 2008 GySgt Hester was assigned as Plt Sgt, 1st Plt Charlie Co. Here he deployed to Afghanistan in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom from May to Nov 2009.
In January 2011 he was promoted to the rank of 1stSgt and assumed duties as the Inspector Instructor Company First Sergeant Direct Support Motor Transport Co , Combat Logistics Battalion 451, Combat Logistics Regiment 45 Orlando, Florida.
In January 2014, 1st Sgt Hester assumed duties as the Company 1st Sgt, Company A., 2D Light Armord Reconnaissance Battalion. In June of 2014, he was reassigned to the Ground Combat Element Integrated Task Force.
His personal decorations include: Navy Commendation Medal (4th Award) with Combat “V”, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4th Award), Combat Action Ribbon.
